Vermont State Finals of the National Civics Bee®
The Vermont Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Addison County Chamber of Commerce, and the Northeast Kingdom Chamber to host a nonpartisan civics competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Participating 6th, 7th and 8th graders will flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. Finalists will be invited to Washington, DC to compete in the National Civics Bee® National Championship. The National Civics Bee® National Championship will take place on October 13–14 and will be broadcast on television.
2026 Vermont State Finals
On Monday, June 8th, the ten finalists competed in the 2026 National Civics Bee Vermont State Finals. The state finals consisted of two quiz rounds followed by an essay round for the top performers. The final scores were a combination of the student’s quiz score and the judges’ essay scores with third place being awarded $250, second place awarded $500, and first place awarded a grand prize of $1,000. All of the finalists received a smart tablet for participating.
2026 National Civics Bee Vermont State Finalist
After an impressive showing of civics knowledge, Sterling R. was named the 2026 National Civics Bee Vermont State Finalist. Sterling will represent Vermont in the National Civics Bee on October 13-14.
Why Civics?
We host the National Civics Bee® Vermont State Finals because we believe that informed and active citizens make for a strong country, a strong economy, and a strong workforce, and that our continued prosperity depends on the strength of all three. Through the Bee, we are promoting greater civic knowledge throughout Vermont and celebrating our civic pride.
How to Enter
Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student residing in Vermont with an idea about using civics to improve their community may submit their application to participate in their state.
