About the Panelists

Cary Brown is the Executive Director of the Vermont Commission on Women, a state agency working to advance rights and opportunities for women and girls since 1964. She’s worked in the gender equity field in Vermont for almost 30 years, in nonprofits, educational institutions, and government. She lives with her family in Montpelier, where she serves on the City Council.

Julio A. Thompson is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Vermont and Co-Director of the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Unit, which enforces Vermont’s laws regarding employment discrimination, fair employment practices, and hate crimes.  In that role, Julio also represents the State of Vermont in national civil rights litigation.  Julio has been practicing in the areas of employment, labor, and civil rights law since 1991, and spent his first 15 years of practice in Los Angeles before moving to Vermont.
