The Vermont Chamber believes that health care and health care insurance should be affordable, and thus more accessible, without sacrificing the quality of service, and the freedom of choice that Vermonters have come to expect.
Significant change is expected with the recently enacted federal and state health care reforms. The Vermont Chamber of Commerce will continue lobbying to ensure:
- Any new health care proposals offered do not unfairly target businesses to fund or subsidize proposed initiatives;
- Increased access and greater options in any proposed health care plan within the federally mandated Vermont Health Care Exchange;
- Any reform results in significant cost containment;
- Increased employer and employee flexibility when deciding on plan structures and benefits packages;
- More than one insurance provider within the health care exchange to increase benefits options and competition;
- A strategy for reform where demand, supply and choice find equilibrium such as increased flexibility in community rating-based underwriting; and
- More focus on personal responsibility in health care decisions.
