The Vermont Chamber of Commerce advocates on behalf of its members in the aerospace, aviation and related manufacturing sectors in support of policies that promote growth, job creation and Vermont's economic competitiveness in a global economy.
The Vermont Chamber supports the following:
- The assignment of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) to the Vermont Air National Guard, located at the Burlington International Airport.
- The resumption of service by Southwest Airlines to the Burlington International Airport, as Vermont depends on affordable and accessible air travel;
- The continued tax exemption on the sales of aircraft parts, machinery and equipment for private aircraft after July 1, 2018;
- Attracting new business and revenue streams to the state through the provision of value added services, such as fueling, maintenance, repair and overhaul; and
- Efforts to establish flight academies that will train pilots for both fixed wing and helicopters and support Vermont's next generation workforce to service the aviation, aerospace, defense, medical, and utility industries.
During the 2007 legislative session, the VAAA was successful in repealing the sales tax on aircraft parts and repairs. This now puts Vermont on a level playing field with our neighboring states.
