For nearly 50 years the Vermont Chamber of Commerce has honored an outstanding Vermonter with its annual Citizen of the Year award. Recognizing the person who contributes to Vermont communities on a statewide basis through service, self-sacrifice, and volunteerism, this prestigious award celebrates the success and character of an extraordinary individual.
The Citizen of the Year award dates back to 1964. Past recipients include Bobby Miller, R. Allan Paul, U.S. Senator James Jeffords, the Honorable Barbara Snelling, Sister Elizabeth Candon, Governor James Douglas, and William Stenger.

The deadline for nominations is August 17, 2012.
The Citizen of the Year award is presented to the individual who:
1) Has made major contributions to the betterment of Vermont;
2) Has been distinguished through outstanding service to his/her community and region; and
3) In the judgment of the Special Selections Committee typifies the true spirit of service and self-sacrifice in representing the finest ideals of Vermont Citizenship.
A dinner event will take place later this year to honor and celebrate the recipient of the 2012 Citizen of the Year award.
